005 | choose the first planner colors & building in public

It's been a while and we have so much to catch up on!

Hello hello! Welcome back to Breathing Room! After a little breaky break, I’m back on the newsletter, but in a new format I’m really excited about… VOICE MEMOS + more natural tone (and sections).

I want something that feels more like you’d send your bestie on a walk or through text, than writing a super polished newsletter (what I was doing previously, and then got stuck), and I’m excited to give this a try. I’m hoping this feels much more sustainable, because I do love chatting with you. 🫶

Let’s catch up!

VMOTW
(voice memo of the week)

This week’s 8-minute voice memo is about:

  • newsletter voice memos

  • building a business in public

  • planner updates

🎧 Listen to the voice memo here, or on Spotify.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

BUILDING IN PUBLIC

If you’re working on something right now and want to put your work out there, don’t be like me! Please just start sharing, even before it’s perfect!

I tend to work on things quietly, heads-down for months and months, but then I realize no one even knows it exists, because I haven’t talked about it at all. 😅

Sometimes that’s because I want it to look polished before I put it out into the world. When we’re constantly surrounded by beautiful branding and curated content online, it can feel like that’s the standard. I try my best not to get stuck in this comparison trap, but I definitely still do!

But the truth is, there’s so much value in the process. I think people want to see the in-progress pieces. Letting people in before everything is finished creates a connection to what you’re doing and building. When I think about my favorite creators and businesses, I like them because I feel like I’ve been on that journey with them.

So if you're also in the messy middle of something right now, I hope this encourages you to share what you’re working on.

PLANNER UPDATES

On that note! Here’s me sharing! ✨

I’ve redesigned the goal planner and am relaunching it under a new business called Best Days Club (still figuring out what I want to do with my personal brand, Hello Luci).

The Best Days Goal Planner is part journal, part goal-setting guide, and part planner. It’s a companion to help you do more of what you want and keep your goals top of mind.

I NEED YOUR HELP! VOTE FOR A PLANNER COLOR

I’m ordering a limited number of planners in two launch colors, and I want you to help me choose! Whatever you choose is what I’ll be ordering!

LITTLE THINGS MAKING MY DAYS BETTER
(a little collage of gratitude + what has been bringing me smiles lately)

  1. Bestie visits over the 4th of July weekend. It was fun being a tourist in St. Pete and getting in so much friend and beach time!

  2. Beach sunsets, city sunsets, all sunsets

  3. Ollie photoshoots. We got a puppy in December, and he’s finally sitting a little more still, so I can snap photos of him.

  4. Driving to the burbs several times to get this matcha yuzu tonic.

  5. My keychain collection

  6. My friend getting me the Beyonce merch I wasn’t able to get in Chicago!

  7. Spontaneous improv date night that was SO GOOD and hilarious.

INTERESTING THINGS FOR YOU
(stuff I’ve read, watched, or listened to that might be interesting to you)

  • IMO Podcast - Change Your Relationship with Money: I loooove the IMO podcast, hosted by Michelle Obama and her brother, Craig. It’s so fun to hear her chat it up with her brother and their guest as they give advice to a caller of the day. I really enjoyed this episode about changing your relationship with money, with Steven Bartlett.

  • Hardly Working with Grace Beverly - Why You’re Struggling With Motivation And How To Fix It: I can’t remember how I stumbled upon Grace Beverly, but I’m so impressed with her biz empire. I’ve been slowly working my way through her business course, and I also enjoy listening to her podcast. I just finished this episode on motivation with John Amaechi, and immediately grabbed his book. 😂

  • Screen time update: I’ve been using Opal to limit my screen time (mentioned in a past newsletter), and I think it’s still going well! I’m averaging about 4.5 hrs/day on my phone total. I thiiink this is a good number, considering last year my average screen time was higher. I’d like to get my phone pickups down, but at least Opal is helping me stay off of socials a lot more. This code gets you 30 free days of Opal Pro, but I’ve been using the free version, and it’s great

AND BEFORE YOU GO…
(questions for you)

  • Let me know how you like this new format!

  • Vote for a planner color!

  • Looking for new book recs. What is a book you haven’t been able to put down lately?

talk soon, x Luci
